Coffee is my lifeline. I drink at least 2 cups a day. Sometimes more. I also drink black tea and diet coke – basically any dark liquid (wine is also on the list, obvi). All of these drinks are great for caffeine levels, but horrendous for my teeth. I’ve noticed that they’ve gotten more yellow over time. So, I tried to whiten them with the store-bought white strips. Fail. Not only does it feel like I’m eating aluminum foil, but they don’t work. I called my dentist to find out about their whitening solutions. They were going to charge $450 for custom whitening trays. And it would take 2 separate appointments – one to make the trays, and one to test/teach me how to use. Nobody has time for that!
A few months later, Smile Brilliant reached out to me to collaborate with them. With Smile Brilliant, you take your own dental impressions, send them off to the Smile Brilliant lab, and then receive your custom whitening trays a week later. All of this happens from the comfort of your own home. To be honest, I was pretty skeptical. This can’t actually work, right? Wrong. It totally works. And I’ve got the pictures to prove it. I’ve also got a giveaway! You could win your own whitening kit. And even if you don’t win, I’ve got a 5% off coupon code as well (code is ‘peachestopen’).
You’re probably wondering how this works. It’s really easy, I promise. In your Smile Brilliant kit, you’ll find 2 kinds of paste: catalyst and base. You mix them together with your hands. It kind of feels like silly putty.
After you’ve mixed it, you press the putty into these blue trays that come in your kit. There’s one for your upper teeth and one for your lower teeth. You press your teeth into the trays one at a time. It takes 2 minutes and 30 seconds for each tray. Warning: you will drool – and it’s completely normal. You can check out this Youtube video to see impressions being made.
Let the impressions dry. Then, ship them back to Smile Brilliant in the prepackaged envelope that came in your kit.
5 days after sending my impressions to Smile Brilliant, I received my custom teeth whitening trays. The trays are rubbery and flexible. They fit my teeth perfectly! The first time I whitened, I left the trays on for around 45 minutes. I did not have any sensitivity. But I still used to sensitivity gel just in case. I whitened for 1.5 hours the next time. And I kept increasing the amount of time until I was up to 3 hours (the maximum recommended time). Throughout the entire process, I had minimal sensitivity. My advice to you would be to get the sensitive package just in case – that way you have the sensitivity gel if you need it. Read more about teeth sensitivity on the Smile Brilliant website.
So, you may wonder what I did while I whitened. Here’s a list:
- grocery shopped
- painted nails
- marathoned Parenthood
- read on my Kindle
You can do basically anything while you have your trays on!
I took a “before” and an “after” picture so that you could see the difference in my teeth. In the “before” picture, my teeth have a yellow hue to them (gross!!).
The results speak for themselves! It’s funny; a few people at work actually commented on how white my teeth were (hi Polly & Denise!). They didn’t know I was whitening! So, the change in my teeth color has been noticeable!
I’m really impressed with my teeth whitening kit. It’s affordable. And so convenient. For more information on Smile Brilliant’s teeth whitening process, click here.
